Crypto AML MCP server: address screening and transaction tracing for AI agents
PublicAML runs a free Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that gives any AI assistant or agent — ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, VS Code, your own agent — crypto AML tools: screen an address or transaction for risk and sanctions, trace where funds came from and where they went, and list counterparties. Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Chain and TRON. No API key, no signup; every tool is read-only.
Remote endpoint (streamable HTTP)
https://mcp.publicaml.org/mcpConnect it
ChatGPT
Published in the ChatGPT Plugins directory — search “PublicAML” in Plugins and add it.
Claude Code
One command:
claude mcp add --transport http publicaml https://mcp.publicaml.org/mcpClaude (desktop and web)
Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, and paste the endpoint URL above.
Cursor
Add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"publicaml": { "url": "https://mcp.publicaml.org/mcp" }
}
}VS Code
Add to .vscode/mcp.json:
{
"servers": {
"publicaml": { "type": "http", "url": "https://mcp.publicaml.org/mcp" }
}
}Local (stdio, npm)
Run it yourself; PUBLICAML_API_KEY is optional — without it the server works anonymously under an IP rate limit and outgoing tracing is unavailable.
npx -y @publicaml/mcp-serverTools
| screen_address | AML score (0–100), risk level, category and labels, sanctions and incident exposure of a wallet |
| screen_transaction | one transaction by hash: what moved, who took part, a label and AML risk for every participant |
| trace_funds | follow the outgoing funds of an address and report where the money ends up — exchanges, mixers, bridges |
| trace_source_of_funds | walk incoming funds backwards: where did this wallet’s money come from |
| list_counterparties | who an address has transacted with, optionally filtered by category (exchange, mixer, gambling…) |
| list_transactions | recent transfers, newest first, with direction and what we know about each counterparty |
| follow_swap | what one DEX or aggregator swap did to each balance (Ethereum and BNB Chain) |
Chains: Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Chain (BSC), TRON. Listed in the official MCP registry as io.github.saloprj/publicaml (remote) and io.github.publicaml/mcp-server (npm).
What an agent can answer with it
- “Is it safe to accept USDT from this TRON address?”
- “Screen this Ethereum transaction and tell me if any participant is sanctioned.”
- “Where did the money on this Bitcoin wallet come from?”
- “Trace where the funds from this hacker address ended up.”
- “Which exchanges has this wallet sent money to?”
FAQ
Is there an MCP server for crypto AML checks?
Yes. PublicAML’s MCP server at https://mcp.publicaml.org/mcp gives AI assistants address and transaction screening, sanctions checks, fund tracing and counterparty lists for Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Chain and TRON.
Can an AI agent trace crypto transactions?
With this server, yes: trace_funds follows an address’s outgoing money to where it ends up, and trace_source_of_funds walks incoming money back to its source. The agent gets labelled endpoints — exchanges, mixers, bridges, hacks — not just raw transfers.
Is it free? Do I need an API key?
It is free and the remote endpoint needs no key. The npm package accepts an optional PUBLICAML_API_KEY for higher limits and outgoing tracing.
What data does the server see?
Only the address or transaction hash, the chain and the tool’s own options. It never receives your chat, never moves funds, and does not store the addresses you look up against you.
