Unauthorized Access to Microsoft’s Official X Account

Microsoft’s official X account was accessed without authorization for about 30 minutes. Unauthorized posts promoted a meme coin and followed an impersonator account.

Microsoft’s official X account experienced unauthorized access for approximately 30 minutes. During this time, attackers altered the profile picture to Clippy, followed an impersonator account, and promoted an unauthorized Clippy meme coin to around 13 million followers. An unauthorized apology post was also made and subsequently deleted.

Microsoft confirmed that the account has been secured and that the unauthorized posts have been removed. The company stated that it never authorized any token associated with Clippy or $MSFT. No financial loss was reported as a result of this incident.
